Endemic to Central Texas. Prefers woodland edges. Low maintenance. Spreads easily so give it some room. Stems can be trimmed when they flop over after flowering. Grows in a wide variety of soils. Is usually thought to be a shade plant, but will also tolerate full sun.
The flower color can be an indicator of the PH of the soil. Acidic soils produce bluer flowers, while more alkaline soils create varying shades of pink and purple. Tradescantia species will hybridize in just about any combination.
